An Intermediate Photography Clinic


Our intermediate clinic is designed as the follow up to our Beginner's Clinic (How2: Take Pictures That Don't Suck). This clinic builds on the foundations learned in the first clinic to take you even further in your art and help you expand your range of comfortability with your camera. The intermediate clinic is ideal for those who have a basic understanding of photography, composition, and how to set their cameras manually in various conditions. Attending the beginner's clinic is not required, but is preferred.

  • You love photography and want to grow as an artist
  • You have a DSLR camera and want to dive further into the art of setting your camera manually
  • You have a good technical knowledge but need help developing your "eye"
  • You are interested in photographing more challenging situations
  • Photography is a passion of yours and you need a boost to get you out of a creative funk
  • You aren't sure what equipment is right for you at this stage in your hobby
  • You want to learn more about what you can do in post to transform your images

You can expect to learn...
  • How to completely set your camera manually in varying conditions
  • How to look for more creative compositions
  • How to develop your own personal style
  • How to use a bounce flash for tricky interior situations
  • Fun with long exposures and night time photography
  • Advice on what equipment is best for you at this stage and what to invest in
  • More advanced post processing techniques in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom
  • Whatever else you want during our Q&A time

What you need to bring...

REQUIRED:
  • A digital DSLR camera. A portrait lens and a wide angle lens. (Preferably with low apertures)
  • A memory card
  • A working knowledge of where the controls for raw/jpg, ISO, white balance, exposure, focus points, and aperture (also knows as "f-stops") are on your particular camera and how to shoot on the AV or Manual setting
  • An detachable flash such as the Canon Speedlite
  • A laptop with Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop (You can download free 30 day trials here.)
  • Whatever you need to get your images from your camera to the computer
  • Comfortable clothes to practice shooting in and comfortable shoes to walk in.

Disclaimer: This workshop is intended for non-professional intermediate photographers and will not cover any aspects of photography as a business. Those with goals of photography as a business are more than welcome to join, but we will be focusing soley on the art, not the business. Although Becka and Nate both shoot with Canon digital cameras, this clinic is not intended to train you on how to use any one particular model of camera and we ask that you familiarize yourself with the locations of the settings on your camera, lenses, and flash before attending.
